Suspension Becomes Movement
This workshop focuses on the connection between suspension, flowing transitions, and a deeper understanding of the body in rope. In Yagami Style, the emphasis is not only on technical execution, but also on how movement, tension, and presence work together.
Together, we explore the foundations of suspension and learn how transitions can be created in a safe, controlled, and organic way. Through simple transitions, intentional weight shifting, and conscious body guidance, we develop a better understanding of how the body reacts under tension and how gravity, angles, and lines of pull influence the experience in rope.
Another important focus lies on the basics of the body: posture, balance, body tension, movement axes, and the natural dynamic between rigger and model. Instead of memorizing fixed patterns, we work on learning how to read and understand the body so that movement can become more harmonious, expressive, and aware.
But why do we work with suspension at all? In Yagami Style, suspension can have many meanings: the visual aesthetics of a performance, the exploration of presence and expression on stage, or the intense emotional and physical dynamic between two people. For some, the focus may be on performance and visual impact; for others, intimacy, connection, or sexual tension. This workshop invites participants to explore these different layers and discover their own approach to suspension.
The focus is not on hardness or extreme positions, but on control, communication, body awareness, and creating a vivid connection through rope.
Suitable for participants with solid Shibari fundamentals who want to deepen their first experiences with suspension and transitions or expand their understanding of movement, body mechanics, and expression in rope.
